What I’m doing:

I just turned in a fairy tale retelling for a boxed set a couple days ago. The high level concept for it would be, “Cinderella meets The Devil Wears Prada.” The set will release early next month. More news as it becomes available. (On that note, make sure to sign up for my new release newsletter when you want to know about my releases: )

I’m currently writing Fire Creek Wolves, Book 1 (still no title on it–but that’s nothing new to my process. lol) 16K words into it and the heroine finally reveals her backstory. :/

I’ve also started writing the first chapter to a hospital-based serial that I hope to publish sometime in mid/late March.

What I’m reading:

Besides the six RITA entries I’ve received, I’m simultaneously reading Boomerang Bride by Fiona Lowe (super cute story so far!), Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole, and Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin.

What I’m doing

So…guess who’s sitting on a contract for two books? Yup! That’d be me! Carina Press has offered a contract for the third book in the Hunger series and the first book in a trilogy entitled Fire Creek Wolves. I’m still tweaking and working on the actual story for the first book, but expect it to be released in August 2015. The Hunger book won’t release until March 2016. Seems like so far away, but it’ll be here before you know it!

Aaaaand… if you didn’t know it, my book Brush Strokes is now part of an 8-author bundle that you can get for $0.99. If you still haven’t gotten it (I can’t imagine why not), then now’s the time to try it out along with 7 other very talented authors.

Aaaaaaand…. I’m going to be a part of another bundle in February that I’m keeping a secret for now. Let’s just say that the theme is one of my all-time favorites. Be on the look out for it! In fact, I’m spending this long holiday weekend working on getting the story finalized (or at least close to it).

Favorite Tweet of the Week

It’s been a sad, sad week on Twitter. So much so that I had to turn it off for hours at a time. Anyway, this is unrelated to politics and the state of race relations in the US and made me laugh…

Favorite Video of the Week

Can I tell you how much this video inspired me? INSPIRED. I’ve been a dancing fool since I first saw it.

What I’m Thankful For

There aren’t enough words to convey how very thankful I am for the life I have been so very blessed to live. Even with the ups and downs, the sad days and the disappointments, I couldn’t have asked for much more. I’m very, very grateful for my family and friends and for readers who stick by me.

I so very hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season and have found what you’re thankful for in your life.

Love y’all.

What To Read After 50SoG: The Gemstone Collection

Look where you can get a copy of my steamy novella, Brush Strokes, on the cheap! Not only is my story available, but an additional 10 stories by some amazing authors, all for only $0.99. What the what? 😛 Go! Go!

What I’m doing now:

I’m roughly 28K words into my 95K words sequel (which *gasp* has a title!). I’m still learning my heroine who is unsure of herself too, which doesn’t make the writing any easier. But I persevere.

I’m also plotting a fairy tale retelling of Red Riding Hood, although that’s going SUPER slowly. I read Frozen by Meljean Brook recently (go read. seriously good and suspenseful) and elements of that keep trying to insert themselves into it. I spend my time unwinding them… The struggle is real.

What I’m reading:

Just finished reading Dark Desires After Dark by Kresley Cole. Yes, I’m still on a KC fix. Just mindyo or join in.

Also, my friend Yolanda Sfetsos has a freebie out that I’m about to crack open. Go find A Patch of Darkness at your favorite e-tailer and let me know what you think.

A tweet I recently favorited:

I’ve taken down my Ellora’s Cave books from my web site. I will continue to support promo efforts for those books with actions such as forwarding reviews, tweets or Facebook posts about them. However, the publisher appears to be in a death spiral, sucking down authors and bloggers with them. I’d rather not be a part of that mess, thank you. Besides, I’ve got lots of other books for you to glom.

What’s going on with you?

Six Sentence Sunday

Hunger XXX, book 3 in my Vampire Hunger series, is well under way. I’ve crossed the 20,000 words mark this morning. Hopefully, in a few months it’ll be complete.

Today’s inspiration can be found on Pinterest. He’d probably make a good Victor, don’t you think? (Hell, YEAH, he would!)

The slave whirled to face him.

And for the first time, Victor paid attention to what she was wearing. Really paid attention.

Hell, he’d already known she was beautiful, a flawless and priceless jewel. But the dress outlined her body in a very perfect way.

Victor swallowed hard.

I think I’ve only been waiting two weeks to hear back from my editor about this one. Keep your fingers crossed she wants it!

What I’m doing now:

Look up at your tab, assuming your browser has tabs. Do you see the little icon up there? Now if you have twenty tabs open, you can tell which one is for my site! Unfortunately, I had to get help in getting it up there, but I like seeing it, so yay!

What I’m writing now:

I just submitted the proposal for HUNGER UNTAMED to my editor. (It will be book 3 in what I’ve called the Vampire Hunger series.) Keep your fingers crossed that Carina wants to publish it. While I wait on a response, I’m continuing to write the rest of the story. I’m anticipating it will be 95,000 words when done.

I’m also part of an upcoming boxed set and need to dust off a story that I’d written for a submissions call, but wasn’t accepted. (In retrospect, thank goodness. I totally dodged a bullet.) Hopefully more news soon about this!

What I’m reading now:

I’d accidentally bought book 12 of Kresley Cole’s Dark Immortals series. ZOMG! Where has she been all of my life!? After reading that one, I immediately when out and bought the next two. Plowed through those and bought another three. Steamrolled through those and bought another two. What? Don’t judge me! The only reason I’d stopped buying is my credit card was still smoking from the rapid purchases. lol  Although I’m actually in between books, I wanted to give a shout out to the series. If you’re looking for a highly entertaining paranormal series, get to reading.

Other Bits & Pieces…

I just want to throw this out there:

Dear New Author,

I know that your first contract offer is VERY exciting. However, if someone who’s been there/done that is urging caution, there’s probably good reason for it. If one publisher wanted your story, I promise that another one will want it too. Take your time before making this decision. You only get to be a first time author once.

Saturday Status-August 16, 2014

I managed exactly two of these before stopping. Oops. But here we go again and I promise to try to do better!

What I’m Writing Now

I had written over 14K words on Vampire Hunger Book 3…before scrapping it all. I’d found the original chapter one I’d written and liked it so much better than the revision. So, I’m now back to the drawing board, using the original version. So as of right now, I’m 7000 words into a 75,000 word (estimated–I’ll probably go up to 90K) story.

I’m simultaneously writing a sooper sekrit series for self-pub. The first book has already gone on sale and the feedback has been great so far.

What I’m Reading Now

This past week I’d finished three books: Immortally Yours by Angie Fox; Ivan (Her Russian Protector #1) by Roxie Rivera; and Shattered Legacy by Lora Leigh. To see what I thought about the books, follow me on Goodreads!

I’ll add that Roxie’s book is currently free on Amazon, so go grab a copy.

Have You Seen?

This commercial made me laugh and laugh and laugh. Love the disgusted look on the kid’s face. LOL! (If you weren’t around in the 90s, this commercial is lost on you.)

That’s it for me. What’s happening with you this week?

Saturday Status-June 14, 2014

Works in Progress:

The #sixsunday post didn’t work for some reason, but I’m still working on Vampire Hunger 3 and am 9200 words into it. I’m projecting it to be somewhere around 75,000 words when done, which probably means it’ll be at least 90,000 words. lol

I’m also cowriting a tentacle-themed story with Ella Drake, although it’s a back-burner project. We’re only on chapter 2 of an unknown final length story.

I absolutely believe in the inherent goodness of people. This tweet/link is yet another example. Loved this story.

What I’m reading:

Still reading Fool Moon by Jim Butcher. At 84% in, I should be done by the end of the weekend. After, I think I’ll journey into a Brava title for a change of pace. That publishing imprint is what got me interested in romance and writing.

Video of the week:

I’m probably the last person alive to see this video, but it cracks me up, especially once I heard the “behind the scenes” of it. No, the kid does not call her by her first name all the time. Only when “negotiating” like this. (Props to the kid for obviously emulating his dad’s conversations with mom.) Enjoy.

Well, that was my week. How about you?

To read more Saturday Statuses (statusi?), head over to Alanna Coca to see what she’s up to.

Saturday Status-June 7, 2014

I’ve been a fan of @AlannaCoca ‘s Saturday Status posts for a while and I just saw @jessmichaelbks doing it too, so I’m going to try and join in on the fun. Regularly. (Key word, that.)

Works in Progress

So I’m about ten percent in to Untitled, Vampire Hunger 3 and will have a #sixsunday post up tomorrow. Right now, I only have a vague idea of how to tie this book into the series (weird, right?) so I’m purposefully writing slowly. Sometimes not knowing what’s going to happen in a story makes it difficult to write!

What I’m reading

The first six books in The Dresden Files series were on sale for $1.99 each recently and because a group of author friends had just finished commenting on how great the series is, I went ahead and bought all six. I finished the first one last week and was pleasantly surprised by how engaging the storytelling is. Right now, I’m on Fool Moon.

Commercial of the week

Don’t ask me why I’m drawn to this commercial. I just am. The very first time I saw it, I was annoyed. Now I admit to grudging amusement.

Well, that’s my week. How’s yours going?
